Overview
Volkswagen kept its tradition of naming its cars after prominent winds, and the name "Vento" means "wind" in both Portuguese and Italian. After the launch of the Polo in the premium hatchback segment, VW has launched the sedan variant of New Polo to compete with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki SX4 and Fiat Linea. In other countries, the sedan variant of Polo is known well Volkswagen Polo Classic, but for the Indian market the company decided to go with Vento.
With premium features and competitive pricing, VW certainly is expecting the Vento badge to click with the Indian crowd. The VW Vento is a perfect combination of comfort, style and luxury, and the German company expects it to become a market leader in its segment once production picks up pace. Both the interior and the exterior of the new Vento are contemporary and classy.
Volkswagen has launched the much awaited Vento in both petrol and diesel variants. The New Vento (petrol and diesel) will be available in two variants including Trendline and Highline. While the Trendline is available in two colours, Candy White and Flash Red, the Highline will be available in Reflex Silver Metallic, Shadow Blue Metallic, Terra Beige Metallic and Deep Black Pearl.
Powertrain & Performance
While the Vento was being chiselled, Volkswagen engineers paid special attention to the engine. It has been carved to deliver outstanding performance, mighty power and smooth handling in addition to great economy. The Vento offers 1.6-litre variants that come in a choice of diesel and petrol.
The Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) 16 valve, 1.6L petrol engine spews out 104 bhp of power at 5250 rpm and a max torque of 153 Nm at 3800 rpm. The Vento offers no compromise when it comes to fuel economy. Its petrol engine conveniently delivers 15.8 kmpl for the manual transmission and 14.4 kmpl for the automatic transmission under Indian test conditions.
While the Turbocharged Common Rail 1.6L diesel motor strapped in the Vento is equally refined. The new car features Volkswagen's latest Common Rail diesel technology that is incredibly fuel-efficient yet surprisingly quiet. It is crafted to convey quite an energetic show on the road while, at the same time, being fuel efficient. The diesel engine expels 104 bhp of unrestrained power at 4400 rpm and a remarkable max torque of 250 Nm from 1500 rpm to 2500 rpm. That makes it one of the most powerful diesel engines on the Indian road. The very economic mileage of 20.5 kmpl under Indian test condtions adds a feather in the cap. Volkswagen implores Indians to take it out for a drive to know the reason behind calling the Vento 'the best of both worlds'.
Fine tuning happens to be the seal of the 5-speed manual transmission. With absolutely no effort, it delivers a positive shift action. Further, this transmission helps deliver an invigorating driving experience coupled with great fuel efficiency taking it a level above in the competition. The automatic transmission acclimatizes to the driver's driving style - from relaxed cruising to an active performance. When required, the driver can even shift to the Tiptronic gearshift function.

Comfort, safety, space and style; the Vento has it all.
A CD MP3 player with 4 speakers adds entertainment on the drive. The Vento Highline also comes with electrically adjustable outside mirrors, climatronic automatic air conditioning with rear AC vents and a remote control for central locking.
